CALIFORNIA DRUG TREATMENT
Our approach to drug addiction is current with the epidemic in today's society. That epidemic is happening because millions of normal, decent people have found themselves in a situation that involves medicine for treatment of pain. Good people find themselves unwittingly addicted to pain killers and very often the doctor becomes aware of the addiction and cuts them off. When this happens it is very common to turn to street people to get the medications they have come to need. This crazy world of drug addiction and addicts very soon becomes a nightmare. Then the horrors of withdrawal loom in the future, when the drugs stop the dope sickness starts. That is why it becomes so paramount to continue the drugs, the sickness of going without is almost intolerable and if there is no professional help the, now, addict is condemned to the lifestyle of addiction.
This sometimes leads to many other types of drugs and the new addict will experiment with many of them. Why not, they are already strung out; why not see if something else works better?
There are many type of addicts but the course is always very similar, it leads only to jails, institutions or worse, death. Many addicts are created from bad lifestyles and social situations, but it does not matter what got you here, what matters now is what you do from here.
What addicts don’t realize is that the world they have now found themselves in is a world that will have ramifications for the rest of their lives. There is no cure for addiction, the best that can happen is abstinence; and that requires a daily effort by going to 12 step meetings and working with a sponsor.
There are alternative avenues that do not use the 12 steps but at this time in the field of addiction there is nothing more effective for the long run than a 12 step program. Here at Above It All, a California drug treatment center, we endorse the 12 steps and we give a needed boost to get you started on your new life. That boost is in education, therapy, counseling and habit breaking that all happen with your stay for at least twenty eight days here. It takes twenty eight days just to break a habit so we don’t have much time to do everything that you need to stay clean for the rest of your life, so those 28 days are filled from morning to eve.
A typical day in Drug Rehabilitation goes like this:
You will wake in the morning a 6:00 AM, eat breakfast then get in the van to go to the center. Once at the Drug Rehabilitation Center you will make your first group of the day which is a process group. Here you will talk of current situations of your life in a group setting. After this you will have, once a week, a one on one meeting with your drug counselor, where you will trouble shoot your life. You will also have, once a week, a therapist appointment where you can process those deep seated conditions that keep you getting loaded.
This all happens before 12 noon. Then at 12:00 PM you will make a Narcotics Anonymous meeting or an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting for one hour. Lunch is brought to the Drug Rehab Center and is served from 1:00 to 2:00.
At 2:00 PM you will have your educational group where you learn things like triggers, emotions, family coping techniques and tricks on how to deal with the obsession to use. This class is taught by licensed counselors and is quoted by some to be the best group of the day.
After group you will be taken back to your houses for free time and dinner. Then you will make an evening meeting at one of the fellowships of your choice. Then back in the van to go home before lights out at 10:00 PM.
The weekend schedule is not as intense and includes a ride on Sunday to the church of your choice.
In this journey you will make many friends who identify with your struggles. Your peers are all adults and you will spend time with them in accord with your gender. Men with men and women with women, there are some activities that are coed, but we have found that vulnerable people in early recovery will sometimes “hook up” with a “person who understands” and then the focus is on them when it should be on their own treatment. These “hook ups” never last after drug treatment because they are formulated out of desperation and loneliness. It is best not to tempt fate in these matters so we segregate the sexes. We have many horror stories about some couples who have disregarded our promptings and have joined together in treatment. Some have had to leave treatment only to find that once home the life situations are entirely different and the relationship loses its commonality.
Come recover in the beautiful mountains of California. You’ll find peace here.
