DUAL DIAGNOSIS - Treating Co-occurring Disorders

Here at Above It All we are equipped with a professional medical staff as well as extraordinarily gifted, licensed, counselors and therapists so we are absolutely adept at treating situations known as dual diagnosis disorders. These co-occurring disorders are referred to as the presence of both a mental illness and a substance-use disorder. Research has demonstrated that 50% of all individuals diagnosed with a mental illness also have a substance abuse problem. More importantly, those suffering from co-occurring disorders are treated for all conditions simultaneously here at Above It All.

When choosing a drug treatment recovery center it is important to note that often times other issues exist in conjunction with drug addiction. Above It All understands this and treats depression and other issues caused by factors that range from chemical imbalances to trauma alongside the treatment of drug abuse. In order to help someone maintain a balanced and healthy life, Above It All finds it crucial to address co-occurring disorders and treat them as a whole, rather than separately.

These issues are things like anger and alcohol or depression and opiate addiction. It is easy to see how closely related these issues are so it is paramount to address the entire person with all of their compounded issues. There are, of course, other more serious mental disorders such as schizophrenia and psychosis but is very commonly found that with the proper treatment for the drug/alcohol problem and a realistic medicine regime these people, most of the time, recover from all ailments over a prescribed period of time.

Here is a story from one of our staff who has hands on experience with this scenario;

My name is Dennis and in my dual diagnosis treatment center I was given this diagnosis; bi-polar, schizo-affective, with psychotic episodes. When the doctor told me this I thought that they had closed the gates of Hell on me because I knew that I was broken but this seemed absolutely insurmountable.

They informed me that I needed medicines designed to help me with both the addiction and the diagnosis but I was resistant, real resistant at first. The problem was that my drugs and alcohol came under control but my mental was now becoming all encompassing; that is that my thinking was so out of control I was no good to anyone, especially not myself.

I came to believe that the doctors might be right and they helped me with my mental and the counselors and therapists helped me with my other problems. That was 23 years ago and I have now fully recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of my mind and body.

If you are not sure just how sick you are I implore you to seek treatment and let PROFESSIONALS do what they know how to do. You will meet many well intentioned people who will have very selective opinions on what you should to do with your dual diagnosis issues, but let us help you here at Above It All.

This is a safe and controlled environment designed to help you with all your addiction needs. Call us and let us help you with your issues.

The rule of thumb with medicine in recovery is that those who need meds don't want them and those that don't need them want them.
