The Intervention;
Many times for our future clients we have what is called an intervention. This is where we meet with the family of the person in trouble with the sole objective of getting them into addiction treatment here at Above It All.
Usually the client has been on a terror through the entire family’s lives and the future client either doesn’t care or they believe that they are not hurting anyone but themselves. This is denial and it is a formidable foe because it can work both ways; with the client who needs help and refuses to recognize it, and with the family who try to insist that they can do it without outside help. Usually by the time we get involved the family is at wits end. This call is where hope starts.
An intervention specialist meets with the family of the addict without the client knowing it, for two or three sessions, and we schedule a time for the entire family to get together and we then guide the client to the meeting (intervention). At the meeting the family, one by one, gets the chance to tell the client just exactly how they are affecting them personally. This meeting is very usually intense with a lot of emotions and sometimes angry outbursts by both the family and addict. This is why the intervention must be guided by a professional interventionist.
When all the cards are on the table it is hoped, and very often achieved, that the client will see that they do need professional help. This is when the interventionist introduces the Above It All solution to all of the involved.
The client is afforded an opportunity to get their things together and we get the chance to reason with them how important it is for them to come into recovery right away; now. The client usually feels that they have too much going on and that they could not possibly leave right now, so it is worked out with the family and Above It All personnel just exactly how these obstacles will be surmounted so that the client can feel cared for from the first day.
The client is put on a plane or driven personally by one of our drivers to the beautiful California Mountains in Lake Arrowhead, just two hours outside of Los Angeles. This drive is the start of what will be the best move of their lives.
